FAQs About Your Water

Q: What is a WSC?

A: The “WSC” in “Dripping Springs WSC” stands for “Water Supply Corporation.” WSCs in Texas are member-owned and member-controlled corporations under Texas law. WSCs comply with the laws and regulations governing nonprofit corporations. Dripping Springs Water is overseen by five residents elected by the members of the corporation. The board meets at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of the month, and public participation is invited.

Q: Is a WSC required to provide service?

A: Yes, if the property is located within the area of the WSC’s “Certificate of Convenience and Necessity” – also known as “CCN.” The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality decides the area a utility will serve and grants the CCN.

Q: Where does Dripping Springs Water get its water?

A: Dripping Springs WSC began with its first water well in 1964. It has added three new wells since then, and the four wells can produce up to 1.5 million gallons per day. With the extension of a pipeline by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), Dripping Springs Water contracted to purchase up to 1 million gallons a day of lake water. Dripping Springs Water has received a “superior” rating from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. In times of peak demand - usually in the summer - Dripping Springs treats and combines its well water and surface water to assure its members can count on safe, reliable water service.

Q: What facilities does Dripping Springs Water operate?

A: Dripping Springs Water operates four well sites, three pump stations and a surface water connection site. It has more than 900,000 gallons of water storage in three ground storage sites and two standpipes. Almost all of its 45 miles of distribution pipelines are in a looped system to assure reliability and minimize disruptions. The average pressure in the system is 63 pounds per square inch south of U.S. 290 and even higher north of the highway, well in excess of the minimum required by the state.
